21 ARISTANA Il Settecento sabaudo in Sardegna: agli albori della Strada Reale The Savoy’s Eighteenth Century in Sardinia: at the Dawn of the Royal Route abstract keywords The Savoy’s eighteenth century in Sardinia is the century in which the great construction works of what is now the State Road 131 Carlo Felice . The documents show us the strong will of the rulers to create road links that could lead to the growth of trade. Having overcome the initial pro- blem of finding the necessary funds, it was in the second half of the eighteenth century that the Strade e Ponti company was born and the tra- cing and construction of the road junction that from Cagliari still leads to Sassari today began. The landing of the French in 1793 interrupted the works that were completed under Carlo Fe- lice but the spirit, the layout, the bridges and the intervention to reform the shape of the wagons are the great legacy that Vittorio Amedeo III left on the island. Il Settecento sabaudo in Sardegna è il secolo in cui si impostarono i grandi lavori di costru- zione di quella che oggi è la Strada Statale 131 Carlo Felice . I documenti ci mostrano la forte volontà dei regnanti di dare vita a collegamen- ti viari che potessero portare alla crescita del commercio. Superato l’iniziale problema del reperimento dei fondi necessari, fu proprio nella seconda metà del Settecento che nacque l’Azienda Strade e Ponti e si iniziarono il trac- ciamento e la costruzione dello snodo viario che da Cagliari conduce ancora oggi a Sassa- ri. Lo sbarco dei francesi nel 1793 interruppe i lavori che furono completati sotto Carlo Felice ma lo spirito, il tracciato, i ponti e l’intervento per riformare la foggia dei carri sono la grande eredità che Vittorio Amedeo III lasciò all’Isola.
