Notes on the Discovery of a Funerary Slab Dedicated to him abstract keywords In the 1820s, the Savoyard government en- dowed Sardinia with an important new arterial road designed and built by Giovanni Antonio Carbonazzi and his collaborators. Among the- se, the sources of the time mention Francesco Maréchal, who died of malaria at the age of only 29 during the work in progress on the island. The funeral monument of the Savoyard lieutenant was built in the parish church of Sardara but was dismantled at an unspecified moment. A marble slab bearing a part of the epigraphic text that en- riched the missing tomb was found in Cagliari at the end of 2020 by the Municipal Police. Negli anni Venti dell’Ottocento il governo sa- baudo dotò la Sardegna di una nuova impor- tante arteria stradale progettata e realizzata da Giovanni Antonio Carbonazzi e dai suoi col- laboratori. Tra questi, le fonti del tempo ricor- dano Francesco Maréchal, morto di malaria a soli 29 anni durante i lavori in corso nell’isola. Il monumento funebre del tenente savoiardo fu realizzato nella parrocchiale di Sardara ma fu smantellato in un momento imprecisabile. Una lastra marmorea riportante una parte del testo epigrafico che arricchiva la tomba scomparsa è stata rinvenuta a Cagliari alla fine del 2020 dalla Polizia Municipale.
