117 ARISTANA La Strada Statale 131: dalla nascita di ANAS ad oggi State Road 131: From the Birth of ANAS Until Today abstract keywords The 131 National Road, a.k.a. “Carlo Felice”, is the main route from North to South Sardinia. It was built in 1822 and since 1928 is managed by ANAS, the main Italian company for roads management. In the last 100 years, the road has faced many transformations. The very first modernization measures, which took place in the 40’s and 50’s of the past century, were the asphalting works of the roadway. Subsequently, ANAS started the widening of the road, which was concluded in the middle 70’s. With the incre- ase of the traffic of the last decades, the road’s safety standards have been improved. This pro- cess is still in progress and includes the removal of the at-grade junctions and a scheduled main- tenance plan. The goal, for the future, is to tran- sform Sardinia’s main route into a road capable of communicating in real time with the drivers. La Strada Statale 131 ‘Carlo Felice’ costituisce il principale collegamento tra il nord e il sud della Sardegna. Nata nel 1822, dal 1928 è ge- stita da ANAS, la principale società di gestio- ne stradale in Italia. Negli ultimi cento anni la strada ha subìto numerose trasformazioni. I primi interventi significativi di modernizzazio- ne, negli anni ’40 e ’50 del secolo scorso, han- no riguardato la bitumatura del piano viabile. Successivamente ANAS ha avviato i lavori di allargamento, conclusi nella metà degli anni ’70. Con l’aumento dei volumi di traffico negli ultimi decenni, la strada è stata interessata da interventi di progressivo miglioramento degli standard di sicurezza. Questo processo è attualmente in corso e comprende la com- pleta eliminazione degli svincoli a raso e un piano di manutenzione programmato. L’o- biettivo per il futuro è quello di trasformare la principale arteria della Sardegna in una strada capace di comunicare con gli automobilisti in tempo reale.
